Most of the trucks we see financed have miles on them. That is not the exception in this industry, it is the market — and a truck with history is not a problem to be explained away.
What age and mileage actually do is narrow or widen the field, and reshape the deal that comes back. Used truck financing treats them as two inputs among several, not as a gate.
They change which lenders look
Every lender writes its own appetite for used equipment, and those appetites are not the same. One application to 40+ lender partners exists precisely so that a unit outside one lender’s comfort zone still gets seen by the others. This is the practical reason a wider network matters more on a used truck than on a new one.
They change how the term is shaped
Lenders generally do not want a payment schedule that outlives the earning life of the asset. Terms on equipment financing run from 36 to 72 months, and where your deal lands in that span has a lot to do with the unit’s age and hours. A shorter term means a larger payment on the same amount, which is worth modelling before you fall in love with a specific truck.
They change the paperwork
- Mileage and service records, where the seller kept them
- An inspection or condition report, where the deal calls for one
- Title status, and payoff details for any lien still recorded against the unit
- A clean bill of sale with the VIN matching every other document
On a dealer purchase most of this arrives in one envelope. On a purchase from another owner you are assembling it, which is the part of the job we take on rather than hand back to you.
What they do not change
The business still needs to be an Inc. or LLC with at least two years of operating history, the bank statements still get read, and the process still starts with a soft credit pull only. Age and mileage move the structure; they do not replace the file.
A practical order of operations
Get your options before you commit to a specific unit, not after. Knowing the shape of what you qualify for turns a truck search into a shortlist instead of a series of disappointments — and once you have picked one, decisions typically come back within 24 hours and funding typically follows within 2–5 business days.
