COMMERCIAL TRAILER FINANCING — FLATBED, DRY VAN, REEFER
Trailer financing
with or without the tractor.
Semi trailer financing for flatbed, dry van, reefer and other commercial trailers — as a standalone purchase or bundled with the tractor in the same request. New or used, from a dealer or another owner.
THE SHORT ANSWER
Can a trailer be financed on its own?
Commercial trailer financing covers flatbed, dry van, reefer and other titled trailers on their own — you do not have to finance a tractor at the same time. Tractor trailer financing bundles both into one request when you are buying them together. New or used, from a dealer or another owner, the application is the same: one form to 40+ lender partners, decisions typically within 24 hours.
COMMERCIAL TRAILER FINANCING
A trailer is collateral
in its own right.
A trailer does not have to ride along with a tractor purchase to be financed. It is a titled, serialized asset a funding partner can secure on its own, which is why commercial trailer financing works as a standalone request — and why tractor trailer financing can still put both units into one structure when you are buying them together.
TRAILER TYPES
What the network
finances.
The trailer type changes what the funding partner reviews, not how you apply.
| Trailer | Typical work | What the review looks at |
|---|---|---|
| Dry van | General freight, drop-and-hook | Year, length, doors and floor condition |
| Reefer | Temperature-controlled freight | The trailer and the refrigeration unit, including its hours and service history |
| Flatbed | Steel, lumber, machinery | Deck condition and the securement equipment included in the sale |
| Step deck and drop deck | Tall or oversized loads | Deck and ramp condition |
| Lowboy | Heavy equipment hauling | Capacity rating and the condition of the gooseneck |
| Used trailers | Any of the above | Age and condition shape which partners respond — see used truck financing |
Consumer and recreational trailers — campers, horse, boat and utility trailers — are outside this product. This is commercial equipment financing for business use.
Standalone or bundled
One trailer, a set of trailers, or a tractor and trailer together: the same application covers all three, and the funding partner structures what is actually being bought.
A reefer unit is part of the asset
On a temperature-controlled trailer the refrigeration unit is reviewed along with the trailer, so bring its make, its hours and its service history with the VIN.
Used trailers are ordinary here
A trailer with years of service behind it is a routine purchase, and age is one input in the review rather than a reason to stop.
IS IT A FIT?
Commercial trailers, yes.
Recreational ones, no.
A good fit
- A titled commercial trailer for business use
- A standalone trailer purchase, or a tractor and trailer in one request
- New or used, from a dealer or another owner
- Inc. or LLC with 2+ years operating
Not this product
- Campers, RVs, horse, boat and utility trailers — personal and recreational equipment
- Personal or household purchases of any kind
- Businesses under 2 years old or not incorporated — freight factoring is usually the first step
- Lease-purchase and rental programs — this is financing to own the equipment
WHAT LENDERS REVIEW
What a trailer request
has to answer.
| Item | Why it matters on a trailer |
|---|---|
| The trailer | Type, length, model year and VIN. A reefer adds the unit make and its hours. |
| Standalone or bundled | Whether a tractor is part of the same request changes the structure the funding partner puts together. |
| Business profile | Inc. or LLC with 2+ years, plus recent business bank statements. |
| What pulls it | The tractor the trailer will run behind, and whether that truck is already yours. |
| The seller | Dealer paperwork is standard; a private seller adds the title, lien and payoff steps. |

STRAIGHT ANSWERS
Trailer financing questions,
answered before you commit.
Can I finance a trailer without buying a truck?
Yes. A commercial trailer is a titled asset and can be financed on its own. Semi trailer financing stands alone — you do not need to finance a tractor at the same time.
Can a tractor and a trailer go in one request?
Yes. Tractor trailer financing puts both units into one application, and the funding partner structures them together. See semi truck financing for the tractor side of it.
Do you finance used trailers?
Yes. Age and condition shape which funding partners respond and what structure comes back, the same way they do on a truck. See used truck financing.
Is a reefer treated differently from a dry van?
The trailer itself is reviewed the same way, and the refrigeration unit is reviewed as part of the asset. Have the unit make, its hours and its service history ready along with the trailer VIN.
Do you finance campers, horse trailers or boat trailers?
No. This is commercial equipment financing for business use. Personal and recreational trailers fall outside the product.
How much do I need for a down payment on a trailer?
It is set by the funding partner once the trailer and your business profile have been reviewed.
Can I buy the trailer from another owner?
Yes. The title, any existing lien and the bill of sale are handled the same way as on a truck. See private party truck financing.
What do rates and terms look like?
Rates run from 8% to 13% based on qualifications, with terms from 36 to 72 months. The structure on a specific trailer is set by the funding partner.
Tobo Capital Group LLC is not a lender. We arrange financing for businesses through third-party lender partners. All financing is subject to credit approval; rates, terms and availability are set by the funding partner and vary by transaction. Figures on this page describe what has typically been available through our lender network and are not an offer or commitment of financing.
